People are not built like computers, you cannot just upload information into our brains. In our lives, we learn from listening, talking and experiencing things. Actually try to listen carefully and not just casually. Listen for familiar words and when you hear a prompt to respond, try to respond.
Try to speak French as much as possible. Talk to anything that will listen, your dog, your annoying brother, a mirror. If you aren’t around the language and just learn but not practice, it is very easy to lose knowledge or focus.
Lastly, you should check out learn to speak French programs. There are so many different books and programs on the market today, but some just plain old suck. Boring books with outdated sayings and texts. Some of the words and dialects in these books are out of date and aren’t used any more.
