Things To Think About When Emigrating To Spain

Thousands of people every year decide to immigrate to Spain! Every year thousands of people flock to the enjoy the laid back lifestyle and beautiful whether. Being part of the European Union means you should find it relatively easy to move to Spain but you still need to be aware of a few factors.

Make sure you know enough basic Spanish to get by. You shouldnt assume that everybody will speak English as that ignorance wont get you very far. You need to look at what you want to take with you. I don’t mean your favourite shoes or the antique dresser in your bedroom. Things like children, pets and cars for example all need careful planning if you want to relocate. When you first get out there renting whilst you find somewhere permanent is advisable. Once you have got your permanent home finalised don’t forget holiday home insurance. You may find it easier to go through a broker in your own country if you’re not too sure of the legalities around home insurance in Spain. There are serious factors to consider if youre putting your children in Spanish education, least of all the fact theyll be taught in Spanish. Most children start school at six and finish compulsory education at fourteen. The majority of children then decide to seek training at a vocational college or stay on in secondary education. Some parts of Spain can be very rural and you may wish to take your own car with you rather than having to buy a new one. This will also involve looking into the paper work required. For example you cannot tax a UK car in Spain so you’ll need to arrange to have it taxed from the UK. You might find it easier to register your car in Spain and change you plates.

The most important thing you can do is plan ahead as much as possible. Make sure you’ve got everything insured, insurance for holiday homes and health insurance for expats are best being organised through brokers in your native country to avoid any language barrier issues.
