Lessons are very short and I find the minimalist animation (more like comic stills with moving lips) to be less than “immersion.” The word for bathroom was misspelled. Sometimes the practice game at the end of a lesson is less about reinforcing language than it could be. The extreme sexism put me off so much I could not continue past lesson five, and because of the sexism I would definitely not recommend this product for children. I can’t imagine it being preferred by adults to any other product in its category that I’ve ever seen. The target market for this item seems to be the impulse shopper browsing the bargain bins near the checkout at a dollar store. In fact, I’ve bought a much superior Spanish CD set from the bargain bin. You usually “get what you pay for,” but this time the product is overpriced.

This program is fantastic and has incredible customer support. I emailed a question and they responded very quickly to me and was very nice and helpful. Plus, their web site http://www.discoverspanish.com also has podcasts that I can download and listen to when I can’t be in front of the computer so I can always be practicing my spanish everywhere I go. Perfect for the commute to work. I highly recommend to anyone wanting to pick up another language.

This software didn’t live up to my expectations. I do like how it reinforces conversational Spanish, and you have to think about the scenarios pictured to decide how you will reply. It’s all multiple choice, though, so you’re bound to see an answer that fits without thinking too hard. My main beefs with it are (1) there is only one type of review game (concentration–not actually that fun), and (2) There are only 36 lessons. For the same money, I think I could have done better.

I hated spanish in high school but using Discover Spanish was fun and easy. I learned so much in less than an hour. The interactive approach with animation, sound, and games really makes learning a new language easy.
