I had high hopes for Fluenz. I dislike Rosetta Stone and I really hoped for a better alternative.

I use a laptop and only a laptop – and I travel a lot. I want to install software on my computer; I don’t want to carry a stack of DVD’s everywhere I go.

Fluenx cannot be installed, period. They say it is designed like a video game – to be used only from the disk. You must carry the DVD’s to use it. Bad idea, Fluenz – this is not a Nintendo game, it is computer software that should be installed to a computer . . . not carried around in the form of four disks.

Of course, there are other options such as creating a software/daemon-based DVD drive but I didn’t buy Fluenz to then have to buy & install more stuff only to make it work.

Back to Rosetta Stone – which is computer software, not a video game.

    Purchase of Language Package

Fluenz came to my rescue and provided the complete MAC Spanish program to replace my earlier purchase which was unsatisfactory (through no fault of theirs). I’m currently using the DVDs on my Mac and the program is great so far. The comments I provided in my earlier review were true at the time; however, recent action by Fluenz has taken care of my objections completely and I’m a “happy language learner.”

Earlier Review: I purchased the Fluenz language package that was on sale through Amazon. The Amazon advertisement stated that the package was both Win and Mac. The advertisement failed to state that you need separate DVDs for Mac. The package that was subsequently sent to me by Rick Peterson contained only Win DVDs. I contacted Fluenz and sent them a copy of my receipt; they refused to send me the Mac DVDs presumably because I was getting the package from a third party. They claimed that they couldn’t find the order. I have not contacted Rick yet. I have a $230 dollar item that I can’t use. I’m not a happy camper. Is there anyway that you can get me the Mac DVDs either from Fluenz or have Rick get them if he was the person that made the original order? The package is totally useless without the Mac DVDs.

The software is alright, I think it is helping me. However beware of the many reviews on here, I think many are written by Fluenz themselves. You will see what I mean if you purchase the software. I think it is overpriced for what you get. If it were more affordable I will give it 5 stars. I have no problem paying a lot, but I expect a lot in return. This isn’t worth over $300.

  5. I just started using it but Fluenz seems to fill gaps that other programs miss. I am not a beginner but have had trouble becoming fluent. I think Fluenz is the key. I will have to use it a bit more before making final judgment.
